To create a bronze monument commemorating both the significance and the contribution that the Texas Longhorn breed of cattle has had on the welfare of the state of Texas. As the selected artist, I chose to depict a larger than life size Longhorn steer placed on a bronze base incorporating a bas-relief scene of a historical Texas Longhorn trail drive. Beyond a simple depiction of the Longhorn as the University mascot, this concept enabled me to convey the impact that the Texas Longhorn has had on Texas.
