Commission Objective

To sculpt a portrait of William DeSanders, a distinguished World War II B-17 bomber pilot and alumnus of N.M.M.I. The sculpture portrays “Bill” in flight gear looking skyward for his lost crew who went down in flames over Hamburg, Germany on their 23rd mission. I conducted my research for this sculpture at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, AZ as well as the Frank Garber facility, a warehouse for the Air Space Museum, Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.
